Lee and Torre (and Bzok and Toki for that matter, but not for this particular anecdote) have the tendency to leave out vowels when spelling certain words. When Lee and Torre were creating a book for writing down plots and notes when class was dull, the "BORED BOOK" turned into the "BORD BOOK." The spelling stuck.
